The Maids
Studio 101
1824 Spring Street Houston
In The Maids by French playwright Jean Genet, the maids play while their mistress -- a wealthy socialite -- is away. Sisters Solange and Claire create elaborate playacting scenarios while they have the house to themselves, and soon the line between fantasy and reality begins to blur. It becomes apparent that the two are seriously unhinged, and their games begin to take a sinister turn when jealousy, resentment, sexual tension and murder converge. The Maids premiered in Paris in 1947, and a film adaptation was released in 1974. This new production at Houston's Studio 101 is performed by Mildred's Umbrella Theater Company.
