The future is looking considerably brighter to most of the Negro League players and friends gathered in the jazz-filled parlor of a Kansas City boarding house, circa 1947. Jackie Robinson's just broken the color barrier in Major League baseball. But superstar pitcher Satchel Paige still struggles under a dark cloud. Though he's one of the most successful and charismatic players in the Negro Leagues, at age 41, he's worried he might've missed his chance to take a swing at stardom. Written by Trey Ellis and Ricardo Khan, Satchel Paige and the Kansas City Swing makes its regional premiere at Houston's Ensemble Theatre, now wrapping up its 40th season.
